Favorable Elements (Xi Yong Shen): The Hinge of Every BaZi Reading
Open any BaZi report and one concept anchors everything: the favorable elements. Name selection, daily calendar advice, annual forecasts — all reference it.
Start from the Day Master
The day stem represents the person. The other seven characters either support or drain it; their combined effect determines whether the Day Master is:
- Strong: seasonally supported, surrounded by peers and resource — surplus power
- Weak: out of season, drained and controlled — insufficient power
The balancing principle

Elements that help are the favorable elements; those that harm are unfavorable. A weak Wood day master welcomes Water (resource) and Wood (peers), while Metal and Earth work against it.
What the favorable elements decide
- Naming: choose characters of the favorable element to supplement the chart (Guanming's naming module selects exactly this way)
- Daily calendar: days whose stem-branch matches your favorable element are marked "supportive"; clashes with unfavorable ones are flagged "caution"
- Annual luck: yearly pillars activating favorable or unfavorable elements drive the ups and downs
Why different sources disagree
Strength assessment weighs the month command, hidden stems, and special structures — schools legitimately differ. The Guanming engine implements one master-lineage ruleset deterministically: the same chart always yields the same favorable elements, and the AI only explains the verdict, never invents it.
